Message in a bottle: Himalayan Sparkling releases water bottle that plays mountain sound as it opens
Mineral water brand Himalayan Sparkling have released a limited edition bottle that uses new technology to play the sound of the Himalayas as it is opened. The bottle is designed to create a multi-sensory experience that transports the user to the source of the water. The sounds include "whistling winds, melting mists, and drop by drop percolation". They were recorded over 20 years in the Himalayas, using high altitude radio transmitters and underwater stream synthesisers.
Designers JWT developed the bottle 'sound cap', which integrates a built-in chip that plays noise when the bottle is opened. The sound then stops when the bottle is closed. The innovation took over two years to develop, through collaboration with sound engineers and product designers around the world.
Himalayan Sparkling is marketed as a high-end water product - "the perfect accompaniment for fine dining experiences". In tandem with the bottle launch, the brand also released a film called The Sound of Water to compliment the new product. Their limited edition bottles are available at selected outlets in Mumbai and New Delhi.
