The best in audio branding: ISA announce 2018 nominations

The International Sound Awards (formally known as the Audio Branding Awards) are generally regarded as the most important audio branding accolades. The awards are organised by the Audio Branding Academy with the aim of "making the world sound better". This year sees 22 projects nominated over 10 categories - a 46% increase since 2017, which reflects the boom of the audio branding industry.

International Sound Awards 2018 Nominations

1  Product

Hear the Taste | Ultra Nordic, Mirum, Finland

There's only one nomination in the Product category this year: Finnair's on-board soundscapes, designed to enhance their aeroplane food.

2  Research and development

ABC_DJ: Music & Brand Values | HearDis!, Germany
Renault Symbioz Sound Design | Andrea Cera, Italy

Research and development focuses on two major projects: ABC_DJ, which uses an advanced algorithm that turns brand values into music, and the Renault Symbioz, which tackles the problem of the sound of electric cars

3.1  Soundscapes and ambient sound

Kyrö Tasting Experience | Audiodraft, Finland 
Feel the Harmony | Sixième Son, France 
Hyundai Olympic Pavilion Sound | why do birds, Germany

This category represents sonic installations in malls, to accompanying beer tasting, for a Philharmonic orchestra, and an immersive experience at the 2018 Winter Olympic games.

3.3  Universal design  

Audio Newspaper Experience | FH Dortmund, Germany 
Hear the Taste | Ultra Nordic, Mirum, Finland

One nomination in this category comes not from an audio branding agency but from a university - Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. This project aimed to create a more accessible and emotional sound experience for the blind and visually impaired.

3.4  Social & Culture

Audio Newspaper Experience | FH Dortmund, Germany

These projects focussed on audio identities for social and cultural institutions: the city of Ghent and the International Arts Festival of Costa Rica.
